These works address the way girls were brought up, what for centuries was considered a method to nurture desirable young females on their way to become submissive future wives. The way of dressing girls was a code informing class, stature, purity. Their garments served as a prop displaying them as products, marketed to male future husbands. In this series I am transforming family heirloom linens into dresses, subsequently used as “plates” for my monotypes. Their transfer informs in a delicate way the cruelty of their purpose while echoing whispers of childhood.
